A Little Bit About Us

Nicholas H.

Our Founder

Nick Lutton, our founder, grew up in Newport Beach and built a distinguished career in the hospitality industry, specializing in 5 Star 5 Diamond Service. With a background working for elite properties such as MGM Resorts International, Wynn Las Vegas, Four Seasons, and The Ritz, Nick excelled in delivering top-tier service and management.

However, everything changed when Nick's son was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, an Intellectual Disability, and Sensory Processing Disorder at the age of three; this pivotal moment led Nick and his family to relocate to the valley, dedicating their lives to better understanding their son's disabilities and becoming more effective advocates.

Our Journey

After moving to the valley, Nick joined a Parent Training and Information Center as the lead trainer, covering 12 counties. In this role, he trained parents and professionals on various critical topics, including:

- Developmental Milestones

- IFSPs, IEPs, FBAs, 504s, and Transition Plans

- Behavior and ABA Services

- Advocacy and Conflict Resolution

- Procedural Safeguards and Due Process

- The Regional Center System and the Lanterman Act

Nick also provided one-on-one case management and parent advocacy, drawing from his personal experiences and professional expertise to support families.

Family Voices of California

Family Voices of California (FVCA) is a state-wide collaborative of locally-based parent-run centers working to ensure quality health care for children and youth with special health care needs. Nick’s involvement with FVCA has been extensive and impactful. As a leader within the organization, Nick has facilitated numerous trainings and health summits aimed at empowering parents and professionals with the knowledge and skills they need to advocate effectively for children with special needs.

Through FVCA, Nick has helped bridge the gap between families and the healthcare system, providing essential resources and support. Moreover, Nick has been actively involved in legislative advocacy, working to influence policies directly affecting families with children with special healthcare needs. His efforts include:

- Providing summaries and insights on key legislation to keep the community informed

- Advocating for better services and support at both the state and federal levels

- Collaborating with lawmakers and stakeholders to ensure that the voices of families are heard in policy-making processes

EPU Children’s Center

The Exceptional Parents Unlimited (EPU) Children’s Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children and families facing extraordinary medical, developmental, and parenting challenges. Nick’s work with the EPU Children’s Center has supported early childhood development. By working closely with families, educators, and healthcare providers, Nick has ensured that children with special needs receive the comprehensive care and education they deserve. His role at EPU involves training parents on various topics, providing direct advocacy, and supporting the center's overall mission to enhance the quality of life for children with disabilities.
