Why choose a professional

Why choose a professional advocate?

You might not know that there are free services through the government to assist families with children who face challenges or have special needs. These services are fantastic for parents and provide a lot of information. Although because of retention and grant restrictions certain things cannot be accomplished.

You also have the option of obtaining a special education attorney.  As we all know this can be very costly, and even though having an attorney is a valuable resource most situations can be resolved without hiring an attorney. In fact, always remember that if you bring your lawyer they're going to bring theirs. The objective of any professional advocate is to ensure that you and the school district stay out of court and come to an amicable agreement. But... A professional advocate will also know when it is time for you to obtain an attorney especially if your child's rights have been violated and will provide you with those services from an outside source.

A professional advocate will walk you through the beginning stages of how to start the process of getting help from the school system and the regional center system, you will be able to have someone overview your documents with you, teach you how to read them, make sure that the schools and the regional center are sticking to their timelines and responsibilities through law. They will also offer parent to parent support, make sure that you know your rights and exercise them affectively. Above all else they will attend the meetings with you! All of these meetings can be extremely difficult to sit through let alone understand the content and the process. You will never have to worry about your child missing out on something that you would like them to have just because no one ever told you it was available.

As a father and an advocate for the past ten years I understand how difficult this process can be emotionally, physically, and mentally. Having someone to talk to that understands and empathizes with your situation, along with having someone there with you will assist you become a better advocate for your child so that the services of a professional advocate or a parent training and Information Center will no longer be needed.
